God’s Script
Don’t Live Yesterday’s Script
This morning, I wanted to share something that happened in our home that I believe might be an encouragement to you.
One of my teenagers got up and started getting ready for school, and I could see it written all over his face—he was upset. He was walking around defeated. Something had happened yesterday, and even though it was in the past, it was still influencing him and weighing on him this morning.
So I pulled him aside and said, “Hey, look. You’re living into the script that today is already ruined because of what happened yesterday.”
And I want to challenge you with the same truth:
There is a different script available to you.
Just because something happened yesterday doesn’t mean that it has to become the script for today.
One of darkness’s greatest strategies is trying to write today’s script based on yesterday’s failures, disappointments, or pain. If it can convince us that yesterday defines today, it keeps us trapped in defeat before the day even begins.
But God offers us a different reality.
A New Script Every Morning
Scripture reminds us in Lamentations 3:22-23:
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
His mercies never come to an end;
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.”
Because of God’s faithfulness, today’s script is brand new. It’s fresh. It’s not built on what happened yesterday. It’s built on the truth of who God is.
God doesn’t want today’s story to be authored by yesterday’s wounds. He wants it to be written according to His character, His promises, and His purposes.
God’s Plans Are for Hope
I’m also reminded of Jeremiah 29:11:
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
That’s what my son needed to hear this morning.
Yesterday is not the script.
God’s script is for blessing.
God’s script is for a future.
God’s script is for hope.
Yes, hard things may still be in front of us today. Challenges don’t magically disappear. But the presence of difficulty does not mean defeat. It doesn’t change whose script we are living under.
The script is still God’s.
Choosing the Right Script
We have to stop living the script from yesterday.
We have to stop letting darkness define the story of today.
If I’m going to choose a script, I choose God’s:
The place where mercies are new every morning.
The place where His faithfulness never wavers.
The place where His love trumps everything else.
The place where a future and hope are still possible.
Maybe you needed to hear this today. I know I did.
I dealt with hard things yesterday too. But when I woke up this morning, I realized something:
There’s a fresh script in front of me.
God wants to write it.
He wants me to live it.
He wants me to walk under His love, His faithfulness, and His mercy.
He wants me to experience His blessings and step into the future and hope He has prepared.
So don’t live the script of yesterday.
Don’t let yesterday’s hard things define today.
Don’t let today’s struggles pull you off of God’s script.
Remember:
His script rules.
Let that be your marching orders today.
Don’t waver.
Eyes up,
Ryan
